El Mexicano Isla Mujeres

What a wonderful place! The food is fantastic, margaritas are delicious and they have a beautiful secret garden as well! The owners Camila and her husband are very nice people and they definitely are doing a great job here. Tacos de pescado al pastor is a must!!! We loved it all and definitely will be back!

An Incredible Dining Experience at El Mexicano. El Mexicano was by far the best restaurant we visited during our time in Isla Mujeres. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The food was just as impressive. Every dish was full of flavor, perfectly prepared, and beautifully presented. The drinks were just as stunning. When everything was brought to the table, I was genuinely blown away. I wasn’t expecting that level of presentation and it really took the experience to another level. The owner, Jorge, was incredibly friendly and clearly passionate about what he does. We watched him behind the bar mixing some of the best-looking drinks we saw on the island. If you’re in Isla Mujeres, this is the place to eat. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. You will not be disappointed.

Hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had — not just in Mexico, but anywhere in the world. From start to finish, this meal was perfection. Let’s start with the ceviche. It was nothing short of spectacular. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the acidity of the citrus dressing was beautifully balanced. The red onions, radishes, and herbs added such a bright, clean crunch, and the avocado was sliced and presented like art. Each bite was light, refreshing, and bursting with flavor. Honestly, this was a life-changing ceviche — I’ll be dreaming about it long after this trip. The fish tacos were equally unforgettable. Rather than being fried like most places, the fish was perfectly grilled — moist on the inside, lightly crisped on the outside, and full of natural flavor. The spicy sauce paired with it had just the right amount of heat without overpowering the fish. And the tortilla? Lightly toasted, warm, and slightly chewy — absolutely perfect. I’ve had countless fish tacos over the years, but this was on a whole different level. Then came the grilled octopus (pulpo zarandeado). I’ve never had octopus cooked this perfectly. It was tender and juicy, not rubbery or overcooked at all — it almost melted in the mouth. The seasoning was bold yet balanced, and the greens it was served on added a wonderful freshness to every bite. The drinks? Incredible. We ordered a Mezcalita, Pina Colada, and a Margarita, and all three were cold, refreshing, and perfectly crafted. The alcohol level was just right — you could taste the spirits, but nothing was too strong. The presentation was also beautiful, garnished with herbs, citrus, and even chili salt on the rim — every glass looked like it belonged in a cocktail magazine. On top of that, the service was warm, attentive, and kind. The decor was charming, with tropical touches and open-air seating that made the whole experience even more relaxing and beautiful. This place isn’t just a meal — it’s a memory. I would seriously return to Isla Mujeres just to eat here again. El Mexicano is a hidden gem that absolutely deserves all the praise. If you love food, this is a must-visit. Truly one of the most unforgettable meals of my life.

The food is one of the best dining I've found on an island. The ceviche was fantastic. Great server and the staff is so friendly. Amazing mac & cheese with lobster! I devoured the molcajeta con arrachera. Incredible salsa with a great smoky flavor. The presentation was well prepared. The portions were more than adequate! We couldn't finish several of the entrees.

Stopped here on a hot day, had a nice ice cold coke and fans running and nice bathroom. The best part was the ceviche- the BEST I’ve ever had in my life. 10/10

Amazing food, had a beautiful set up and design. The waiter and owner were very nice and accommodating, always asking if we were good and trust me we were. We left with our stomachs full, and our thirst satisfied

The food (I had tuna) was delicious. The service was impeccable - my very amiable server let me try her favorite hot sauce and now I have something to look for at home. There was also great live music (tonight was saxophone).
